Fjords, waterfalls and ferry crossings on a loop out of Bergen: about 1,000 km on roads that are slow by design.
Bergen and the western fjords
Western Norway is not about covering distance. Ferries, single-lane tunnels and 40 km/h hairpins mean 300 km can take a full day, and the route is better for it.
Budget for ferries and tolls: most crossings are billed automatically to the vehicle, and a week of driving typically adds a few hundred zloty. Wild camping under allemannsretten covers tents, not vehicles, so a camper needs a campsite or a marked motorhome bay. Mountain roads such as Aurlandsfjellet and Gamle Strynefjellsvegen open in June and close with the first snow.

See what's worth seeing in the Dolomites
Geirangerfjord
A 15 km arm of the Storfjord with the Seven Sisters falls on its north side. The ferry from Geiranger to Hellesylt takes an hour and doubles as the best viewpoint.
Trolltunga
A rock ledge 700 m above Ringedalsvatnet. The full hike from Skjeggedal is 28 km and 10 to 12 hours; starting from the P3 car park cuts it to 20 km. Season runs mid-June to mid-September.
Bryggen, Bergen
The Hanseatic wharf: 62 surviving wooden trading houses, rebuilt after repeated fires and on the UNESCO list since 1979.
Voringsfossen
A 182 m waterfall at the head of Mabodalen, seen from a footbridge over the gorge on the road between Eidfjord and Geilo.

Day by day
Bergen
Bryggen, the fish market and the Floibanen funicular up Floyen for the view over the seven mountains. Very little driving.
Hardangerfjord
About 140 km east to Eidfjord over the Hardanger Bridge. Stop at Voringsfossen, then camp near Odda. Fruit farms sell cider along the way.
Trolltunga
A full day on foot: 20 km from the P3 car park, 28 km from Skjeggedal. Start before 07:00 and carry layers, the plateau is exposed.
North to Geiranger
Roughly 380 km north via Sognefjord and the Eidsdal ferry, then the Ornevegen hairpins down into Geiranger. Two ferries and a long day.
Back to Bergen
The fjord ferry to Hellesylt, then south along Nordfjord and Sognefjord. Borgund stave church, built around 1180, is a few minutes off the E16.
