What a camper trip really costs depends on what the daily rate includes.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Camper in Poland & Europe in 2026?

A 4–6 berth motorhome in Poland costs about 400–490 PLN per day in low season and 600–800 PLN in high season in 2026 (roughly €91–112 and €137–183 at about 4.38 PLN per euro). Large integrated motorhomes cost 800–1,100 PLN per day. Elsewhere in Europe, operators' 2026 price lists run from about €89 per day (Germany, low season) to €240–255 (Portugal, July–August).

The daily rate is only part of the bill. Below are the other costs: fees, deposits, insurance, fuel, tolls and campsites.

Deposits run 3,500–5,000 PLN. Operators differ in what they bundle into the price, so ask for the full list of extras.

VATRA, based in Kraków, charges 490–840 PLN per day depending on the season and camper. All three campers (Benimar Sport 346, Ford Itineo 700, Volkswagen Grand California) are 2021–2025 models with automatic gearboxes, shower, toilet, kitchen and heating. The price includes a kitchen set, camping table and chairs, OC + AC insurance, unlimited mileage and Starlink on board; VATRA is one of very few Polish rentals with Starlink included.

    Seasonal Price Variation

In Poland, high-season rates (600–800 PLN) are roughly 1.5 times low-season rates (400–490 PLN) for the same type of motorhome. July and August are the most expensive and book out first. Some operators close for winter.

Season dates differ by operator. At VATRA, high season runs April–September (840 PLN/day for the Benimar and Ford, 790 PLN for the VW), mid season is March and October (640 / 590 PLN), and low season is November–February (540 / 490 PLN). A 7-day trip in the Benimar costs 5,880 PLN in July and 4,480 PLN in October, a difference of 1,400 PLN.

European Camper Rental Prices by Country (2026)

Poland and Germany are the cheapest of the countries below, at about €90–110 per day in low season; they are roughly level with each other. Poland is clearly cheaper than France, Italy, Portugal, Croatia and Norway.

Norway and Portugal are the most expensive in this table, and Croatia and Sweden get expensive in peak season. Portugal is not a cheap place to rent a camper. Deposits are either blocked on a credit card or paid in cash or by bank transfer, depending on the operator; ask what excess (deductible) applies on top.

What's Included? Typical Polish Rental vs. VATRA

What you pay on top of the daily rate depends on the operator. Typical extras in the Polish market compared with VATRA's terms:

Also extra at VATRA: a vignettes package (75 PLN) and pets (400 PLN one-time).

To compare like with like, ask each rental for the total for your exact dates and party size, including the service fee, bedding, gas, cleaning terms and any mileage cap. VATRA's price already includes Starlink, the kitchen set, table and chairs and unlimited mileage, so check whether other quotes do too.

Example: What a VATRA Rental Costs in Total

  1. 7 days in July, Benimar Sport 346, 4 people: 7 × 840 = 5,880 PLN + gas bottle 200 PLN + bedding 4 × 70 = 280 PLN = 6,360 PLN (about €1,450). No service fee, because the rental is 7 days or longer.
  2. 5 days in October, Volkswagen Grand California, 2 people: 5 × 590 = 2,950 PLN + service fee 650 PLN + gas bottle 200 PLN + bedding 2 × 70 = 140 PLN = 3,940 PLN (about €900).
  3. Deposit: 4,200 PLN, refunded after return. Advance payment: 30% at booking.

  4. Hidden Costs of Camper Rental

On top of the daily rate, plan for fuel, tolls, campsites, return fees and equipment extras.

    1. Fuel

Diesel in Poland cost about €2.06 per litre (≈9.0 PLN) on 28 September 2026 (EU Weekly Oil Bulletin), unusually high for the season. VATRA's campers use about 9 L/100 km, so a 1,500 km week takes about 135 L and costs about 1,220 PLN (~€280) in Poland. Older or heavier motorhomes use more.

    CountryDiesel (€/L, 28 Sep 2026)1,500 km at 9 L/100 km

    2. Tolls

Europe uses two systems: distance-based tolls and time-based vignettes. 2026 figures for a motorhome up to 3.5 t:

  5. Poland: the state-run sections of the A2 (Konin–Stryków) and A4 (Wrocław–Sośnica) are free for vehicles up to 3.5 t since July 2023. Private sections charge: A4 Katowice–Kraków 36 PLN, A1 Rusocin–Toruń 29.90 PLN, A2 Świecko–Nowy Tomyśl 18 PLN, A2 Nowy Tomyśl–Konin 123 PLN. Route choice matters: Kraków to the German border costs 36 PLN via the A4 and Wrocław but 177 PLN via the A1/A2; Kraków to Gdańsk costs 65.90 PLN via the A1 and nothing via the S7 and Warsaw.
  6. France: Paris to Nice costs €90.60 in class 1, €141.50 in class 2 and €206.30 in class 3. Height decides the class: over 2 m and under 3 m is class 2; 3.0 m or taller is class 3. The Ford Itineo (2.85 m) is class 2; the Benimar (3.0 m) and VW Grand California (3.3 m) are class 3.
  7. Italy: Milano Sud to Roma Nord (A1) costs €46.60 in class B; Brennero to Verona (A22) €17.20.
  8. Portugal: Lisbon to the Algarve (A2) costs €41.65 in class 2. The A22 in the Algarve is toll-free since 1 January 2025.
  9. Croatia: Zagreb to Split (A1) costs €41.40 in class II, which applies to motorhomes over 1.90 m.
  10. Germany: no motorway toll for vehicles up to 3.5 t.
  11. Norway: AutoPASS road tolls, e.g. about 315 NOK (~€29) from Oslo to Bergen via the E16.
  12. Vignettes: Austria €9.60 (1 day), €12.80 (10 days), €32.00 (2 months), plus €12.50 for the A13 Brenner section. Switzerland CHF 40 (annual only). Slovenia €32.00 for 7 days in class 2B, which covers tall motorhomes (2A is €16). Slovakia €10.80 (10 days), Czechia 300 CZK (~€12.30, 10 days), Hungary 6,900 HUF (~€18.80, 10 days). VATRA offers a vignettes package for 75 PLN.

  13. 3. Campsites and Overnight Parking

Poland has the cheapest campsites in Europe: €24.19 (≈106 PLN) per night in high season, per ACSI's 2026 survey, and the only country where the average fell. ACSI's figures are for 2 adults + 2 children with a motorhome or caravan, electricity and tourist tax, so a couple pays less.

CountryCampsite, high season (€/night, family of 4)

  14. Stellplatz/aires (motorhome parking): usually much cheaper than campsites, often with water and waste disposal.
  15. Wild camping: rules vary. Norway and Sweden tolerate one-night stops in many places; it is banned in most of Southern and Central Europe and in Polish national parks.

  16. 4. Return Fees

  17. Dirty return: some Polish operators charge 200–250 PLN; others charge a mandatory cleaning fee of up to 350 PLN regardless.
  18. Late return: charged per hour or as an extra day, depending on the contract.

  19. At VATRA, return the camper clean inside, with grey water and the toilet cassette emptied and a full tank, and no cleaning fee applies.

    5. Equipment Extras

Some Polish operators charge separately for bedding (45–60 PLN per person) and a camping table and chairs (~90 PLN). Child seats, bike racks and snow chains may also cost extra; ask before booking.

Camper vs. Hotel: Cost for a Family of 4

At high-season rates, a camper week for a family of 4 costs about the same as a hotel week, in our example about 7% more. Example for 7 days in Poland in summer:

    Cost categoryCamper tripHotel trip
    Rental / accommodation (7 nights)4,900 PLN (700/day, mid-point of the high-season range)4,900 PLN (example: 3-star hotel at 700/night)

*Rows marked "example" are assumptions, not measured prices.*

The camper's main advantage is cooking your own meals; its main costs are the high-season rental and fuel. At a low-season rate of 450 PLN/day the camper total falls to about 8,510 PLN, below the hotel example, although hotel prices also drop outside summer. Longer rentals with weekly discounts and cheaper overnight spots narrow the gap further.

How to Save Money on Camper Rental in 2026

The biggest savings come from season, trip length and vehicle size.

    1. Travel outside July–August. Low-season rates in Poland are 400–490 PLN per day against 600–800 PLN in high season.

    2. Book early. Summer dates sell out first; some operators also discount early bookings or unbooked last-minute dates.

    3. Rent for longer. Many operators discount 2-week and monthly rentals. VATRA gives 7% off for 14+ days, 10% for 30+ days, 15% for 90+ days and 20% for military personnel; rentals of 7 days or more also avoid the 650 PLN service fee.

    4. Choose the right size. A couple does not need a 7-metre motorhome; a smaller van is cheaper to rent and to run.

    5. Use cheap overnight spots. Park4Night and Campercontact list free and low-cost places; alternate campsites with stellplatz/aires.

    6. Cook most meals yourself. It is the biggest saving against a hotel trip.

    7. Compare total cost, not the daily rate. Add up service fees, extras, deposit terms and mileage limits.

    8. Split the cost. At 600 PLN/day, a couple pays 300 PLN per person per day; a family of 4 pays 150 PLN.

    Insurance and Deposits

Most rentals include basic insurance, but you remain liable for damage up to an excess (deductible).

    Types of Coverage

  20. Third-party liability (OC in Poland): covers damage to others. Legally required and always included.
  21. CDW or casco (AC in Poland): covers damage to the camper, with an excess you pay first. Ask how much it is.
  22. Extra protection: reduces or removes the excess. At VATRA it is optional at 250 PLN/day.
  23. Roadside assistance: towing and breakdown help. Check whether it is included.

  24. Deposits

  25. Poland: 3,500–5,000 PLN (about €800–1,140). Depending on the operator, it is blocked on a credit card or paid in cash or by bank transfer.
  26. Elsewhere in Europe: €1,500 is the most common figure in our sample, from €750–800 in Spain to €2,500 in France.
  27. VATRA: 4,200 PLN (about €960), refundable, paid in cash or by bank transfer, not a card block.
  28. Debit cards: operators that use card blocks often do not accept debit cards.

  29. Photograph the camper inside and out, including every scratch, before departure and on return.

Do You Need a Special Licence?

No, a standard Category B licence covers campers up to 3,500 kg, which includes most rental motorhomes.

  30. Up to 3,500 kg (3.5 t): Category B is enough.
  31. Over 3,500 kg: generally requires a C1 licence.
  32. Minimum age and experience: set by each operator. At VATRA the minimum age is 18 with a licence held for 2+ years, and drivers under 23 pay a young driver fee of 60 PLN/day.

  33. All three VATRA campers weigh 3.5 t or less.

When Is the Best Time to Rent a Camper in 2026?

  39. FAQ

How much does it cost to rent a camper in Poland?

A 4–6 berth alcove or semi-integrated motorhome costs about 400–490 PLN per day in low season and 600–800 PLN in high season (July–August) in 2026, based on published price lists of Polish operators. Integrated motorhomes cost 800–1,100 PLN per day, and deposits run 3,500–5,000 PLN. VATRA in Kraków charges 490–840 PLN per day depending on season and camper, with Starlink, a kitchen set, table and chairs and unlimited mileage included.

Is camper rental cheaper than staying in hotels?

Not necessarily in high season. In our example of a 7-day summer trip in Poland for a family of 4, a motorhome at 700 PLN/day with 2026 fuel and ACSI campsite prices costs about 10,260 PLN, against 9,600 PLN for an example hotel trip, about 7% more. Cooking your own meals is the camper's main saving. At a low-season rate of 450 PLN/day the camper trip drops to about 8,510 PLN, below the hotel example.

What's included in the camper rental price?

It varies by operator, so ask for the full list of extras. In Poland, service fees of 300–350 PLN are common, bedding costs 45–60 PLN per person, table and chairs are sometimes extra (~90 PLN) and some operators cap mileage (e.g. 350 km/day). At VATRA, the daily rate includes a kitchen set, camping table and chairs, OC + AC insurance (you are liable up to the deductible), unlimited mileage, Starlink on board and support by phone and messengers during the trip. Bedding (70 PLN per person), the gas bottle (200 PLN) and, for rentals under 7 days, a 650 PLN service fee are charged separately.

Do I need a special driving license to rent a camper?

No, in most cases. A standard Category B licence covers campers up to 3,500 kg (3.5 tonnes), which includes most rental motorhomes. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes generally require a C1 licence. Minimum age and driving experience are set by each operator. At VATRA, all three campers are under the 3.5 t limit, the minimum age is 18 with a licence held for 2+ years, and drivers under 23 pay a 60 PLN/day young driver fee.

When is the cheapest time to rent a camper?

The low season is cheapest: in Poland a 4–6 berth motorhome costs about 400–490 PLN per day then, against 600–800 PLN in July and August. May and September usually give the best mix of weather and price. Season dates differ by operator: at VATRA, low season is November–February (490–540 PLN/day), mid season is March and October (590–640 PLN/day), and high season is April–September (790–840 PLN/day).

Are there hidden fees when renting a camper?

Extra fees are common, so ask for the full list before booking. Typical ones in Poland: a service fee (300–350 PLN), bedding (45–60 PLN per person), table and chairs (~90 PLN at some operators), a mandatory cleaning fee of up to 350 PLN or a 200–250 PLN penalty for a dirty return, mileage caps (e.g. 350 km/day), the insurance excess and late return charges. At VATRA the service fee is 650 PLN for rentals under 7 days and none from 7 days; mileage is unlimited.

How much deposit is required for camper rental?

In Poland, deposits typically run 3,500–5,000 PLN (about €800–1,140). Elsewhere in Europe, €1,500 is the most common figure in our 2026 sample, from €750–800 in Spain to €2,500 in France. Depending on the operator, the deposit is either blocked on a credit card (operators using card blocks often refuse debit cards) or paid in cash or by bank transfer. VATRA's deposit is 4,200 PLN (about €960), paid in cash or by bank transfer and refunded after the camper is returned in good condition.
